This site is a small personal site, where I write about Hellenistic astrology and offer a way for interested visitors to reach me. The policy below explains what limited information the site collects, how it is used, and what rights you have over it.
Who we are
This site’s address is https://the-ascendant.com. It is run by Ezra Rocha. You can reach me at ez@the-ascendant.com.
What information the site collects
Contact form. When you fill out the contact form on this site, you provide your name, your email address, and the message you write. I receive that submission by email and use it only to reply to you. The plugin that powers the form may also retain a copy of the submission in the site’s database for record-keeping.
Analytics. This site uses Google Analytics, installed through the Site Kit by Google plugin, to understand basic traffic patterns — which pages people visit, what country traffic is coming from, and similar high-level information. Google Analytics sets cookies in your browser and collects information about your visit, including a truncated version of your IP address, the pages you view, and information about your browser and device. None of this is used to identify you personally. Data is processed by Google in accordance with their privacy policy at https://policies.google.com/privacy.
If you would rather not be included in this, you can install Google’s official opt-out browser add-on at https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout, use a privacy-focused browser, or block third-party cookies in your browser settings.
Standard server logs. Like nearly every website, the hosting service that runs this site keeps standard access logs (IP address, time of request, page requested) for a short period, for security and troubleshooting purposes.
Cookies
This site uses two kinds of cookies:
- Analytics cookies set by Google Analytics through Site Kit. These help measure aggregate site usage. You can disable them by blocking third-party cookies in your browser or by using the opt-out extension linked above.
- Administrative cookies set by WordPress when I log in to manage the site. These have no effect on ordinary visitors.
This site does not use advertising cookies, retargeting pixels, or any kind of cross-site tracking.
Embedded content
Pages on this site may occasionally include embedded content from other websites — for example a video or an image hosted elsewhere. Embedded content behaves as if you had visited that other website directly: those sites may set their own cookies, collect data about your visit, and embed additional tracking. I have no control over what those third parties do.
Who I share your data with
- Google receives analytics data via Site Kit, as described above. Google’s data practices are governed by their privacy policy, linked above.
- I do not sell, trade, or otherwise share contact form submissions with any third party. They are used only to correspond with you.
How long information is retained
- Contact form submissions are retained in my email and, depending on plugin configuration, in the site database, indefinitely — so I can refer back to a conversation if it picks up later. You can request deletion at any time.
- Analytics data is retained by Google for the default Google Analytics retention period (currently fourteen months under the standard configuration).
Your rights
You can ask me at any time to:
- Tell you what information I hold about you
- Provide you with a copy of that information
- Delete that information
To make any of those requests, email ez@the-ascendant.com. I will respond within a reasonable period.
If you are in the European Union, the United Kingdom, California, or another jurisdiction with specific privacy laws, you have additional rights under those laws — including the right to lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority. The same email address is the place to start.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes meaningfully, the updated version will be posted on this page together with the date it took effect.
